Green Building Costs
The costs of green building are not as high as one might think.
A recent global survey by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and a 2004 Study by Matthiessen, Morris, & Langdon revealed that most builders and real estate agents thought the cost to incorporate principles of green building would add 17-40% to the construction cost. In fact, both the survey and the study showed that it added an average of 5%.
That is a small investment in building a quality home to stand the test of tie, for a house that will pay you back for years to come through energy savings, with a healthier living environment. The added bonus is often quality and longer lasting products. Many of the principles don’t add any cost; it is simply using a technique or selecting an alternative product.
